Springing Forward

St. Paddy’s day, Spring Equinox, Aries, and a new baby in the family. What a week! We are indeed Springing Forward and celebrating along the way. Of course here in Vermont Spring doesn’t always coincide with bright flowers or even warmth, but it is here all the same, perhaps most noticeable in the light that lingers a bit longer than it did only yesterday. And when the robin’s egg blue pokes out from behind the towering clouds the whole of the sky transports those of us held earthbound higher. It’s magnificent.

Despite the lingering snow, the geese and ducks have made their sojourn back to the wet fields and open lakes, another visual that Winter although holding on is in fact broken. They eye me as I run past and I nod, giving the signal I am not a threat but just another creature on this spinning globe. They honk and paddle away in disagreement.

Early Spring is cause to celebrate. A beautiful loaf of Irish Soda Bread did the trick. A tablespoon of caraway seeds is the best addition to that recipe by the way. And currants.

And then there is this wild little guy who arrived with the dawn to make my sister a grandmother. A few hours in and she is madly in love, her heart stolen instantaneously by the baby of her baby. Aries to Aries they are ready for adventure.

There are cool days ahead for sure, but there is much brilliance right around the corner, breaking along the horizon. I am reminded, a warmer breeze will come eventually.

  1. Your bread looks yummy and I love the idea.of currants in it. Spring sprang in Ontario last week and this week they had the biggest snowfall of the winter!! We are currently in Florida until April 10th, when we head north. Snow is gone by then.
