What April Brings

Snow, snow and more snow… this seems to be the first of April’s gifts if in fact one views snow this time of year as a gift. I can’t complain at all really, for snow has been sparse this past winter, and a day tending the wood stove an easy occupation instead of my daily routine. As of now we still have power [she knocks on wood] so we are happy.

We measured a foot at midday and it is still falling, blanketing our cozy home nicely. There is a steady silence that hushes over such a landscape which captures one’s busy mind with an easy nudge. Relax it whispers, move as you might, heels hitting the earth with a light touch, until you are ready to sit again. There is little else that matters today.

As lovely as this fresh whiteness appears, I long for a bit more color. Which of course leads me right into studio time. This past month I have been playing around with psychedelic swirling swathes of hot pink and turquoise, overlaid on orange and blue. It’s been a blast of a party in my studio many a late night, and I must say I love the play.

This one, untitled for now, is enjoying time on the living room wall. As we get acquainted, I am more and more delighted with all the joy that exists in each blended inch. As much as I do love creating, and that I do, sitting with a canvas afterwards is a treat. I am reminded that this simple happiness is available to anyone, anytime.

Maya Angelou wrote, “Because of the routines we follow, we often forget that life is an ongoing adventure…and the sooner we realize that, the quicker we will be able to treat life as art: to bring all our energy to each encounter, to remain flexible enough to notice and admit when what we expected to happen did not happen. We need to remember that we are created creative and can invent new scenarios as frequently as they are needed.” Yes to created creative. Awww April, keep bringing what you will. đź©·
