I am struggling

I hate hand guns, and the weapon industry that makes it seem like a good idea for citizens to own arms, but WTF?! “You can’t have guns. You can’t walk in with guns,” the president said about the cold-blooded public murder of an American VA nurse who carried a concealed and permitted SIG Sauer P320. Dear America, how, just how are you rationalizing an inept ICE, and a heartless Federal Response with all their subsequent lies to convince people not to believe what they just witnessed in Minneapolis, again. I can’t hold such horror in my mind and yet I can’t stop thinking of those families who now have an empty chair at their dinner table thanks to the undisciplined and criminal behaviors of this poorly trained yet heavily-armed-paid mercenaries. Where is your outrage? Where is your defense of the 2nd Amendment? What is you limit to the retribution agenda of your wishy-washy President? What happened to the rule of law? Are you too struggling as I am?

For me it’s the endless lies. Sure it’s the hypocrisy and the global embarrassment, but how are you dealing with the lies? You who waved the Trump flag after he incited an insurrection, who believed in a stolen election or his promise to help with food prices or home prices or job security, aren’t you all ready for a pause on his retribution rule?

Bottom line is too many aren’t. 53 Republican Senators are blindly doing his bidding, regardless of the outcome for their constituents, so why would I expect murder in the streets to change anyone’s mind? But I am struggling with how such obvious lies are swallowed without question by MAGA followers. Aren’t we all united to uphold unalienable rights such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? These powerful words rest in the principles of Democracy alone. Not in what ever it is the current administration is doing.

It is pointless to bandy about which political party you align with or why. But quite seriously, it is now 85 seconds to midnight, and we are out of time for debating.

The Doomsday Clock just issued its yearly update, and yes, we lost another 4 seconds. Not hard to imagine thanks to the irresponsible and corrupt actions by the three biggest culprits hellbent on destroying our tiny Earth: Russia, China, and yes, the United States. What is spearheading our eminent doom you ask? Nuclear war, climate change, and the misuse of biotechnology. The consequences are sending us barreling straight into catastrophe. And yet, what are our elected politicians doing to back the clock up? The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists certainly can offer hopeful suggestions, but will they be listened to by the likes of Putin, Xi Jinping, or Trump? Will any of the corporations backing each of these regimes persuade them to? In this Bernie and I agree, “Never before in history have we seen a billionaire class with so much political power. And never before have we seen this unprecedented level of greed, arrogance and irresponsibility.”

So, you might ask, what are the major issues affecting America and the rest of the planet beyond the Arms Control and Nonproliferation, the Climate Crisis or Cyber Issues? How about Anti-Corruption and Transparency. Combating Drugs and Crime. Combating Terrorism. Economic Prosperity and Trade Policy.
Might these become the topics around our tables, at the dog park, waiting for a pickle ball court, or on the Senate floor? Instead we hear of lawsuits that the President is pursuing, or the outlandish money paid to the First Lady for her infomercial, or if Bad Bunny is American enough to take the Super Bowl stage (he is btw) or some other superficial debate.

But a Nine Cent Girl can dream, right? Let us imagine if the White House inhabitants were using the same velocity that they are using to dismantle our Republic to ensure its survival? Instead of denying the climate crisis, instead of letting The Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START I) expire, instead of underestimating AI-enabled cyber attacks, might they, our government, assemble those with the expertise to counter these issues with problem-solving solutions? Yes, yes, I am going to dream that they do just that. Perhaps not the current administration, but with all my hopes intact, we might usher in decent humans the next time around. If only so our best little guy has a planet left to run freely along.

  2. America is a very bad B rated movie right now, that deteriorates into being unwatchable. It is scary and gruesome. Terrifies me, especially because I can’t even comprehend how something lie this can happen.

  4. Bernie knows. The greed, arrogance, and irresponsibility have never been so ‘out there’ as they now are during Trump’s second term. And those who sit right alongside him and say nothing…I don’t know how they live with themselves.

    I got nothing, Moira. But surely we will get out of this mess we are in and sound minds–not sounder because there is nothing sound about anyone of this administration–will prevail. Of that I am sure.

  8. I am concerned too. No-one is safe. A mother murdered in public view. A good man shot 10 times. There are many more. I hope we learn. We need to listen to the people running for public office. If they don’t desire no violence, to feed the children and medico care for anyone who need it. Do not vote for. Powerful thoughts shared. I worry for my world. I don’t want my grandchildren fighting old men wars.
