Barbie, Indictment #4, and Summer’s End

Did I get your attention with that title? I really don’t have much to say about “Barbie” other than duh. I mean who doesn’t realize the world is in the control of rich white men? Casting Will Ferrell doesn’t really change the fact that men like Ron Desantis and his cohorts want to not only change our history books and keep women barefoot and pregnant, but want to keep guns in the hands of equally irresponsible and angry white men and trans women the target. “Barbie” is fun and all, and the litany of indictments aimed at putting that clear and obvious criminal behind bars is also fun and all, but this is a man’s world. T-man’s rich and not afraid to lie or coerce or slander or destroy for his own gain, so whatever, I am thinking about more immediate last-ditch summer-blowout fun-shine and sun-scapes this week. You too?

Freshly back from the pastel west coast sunsets and swaying tall palms and the blue waves of the pacific I have entered my garage studio with the wind and colors of California. This three panel table is inspired by our desire to sit out in a grotto under a fading sun and enjoy a meal with family. With much hope that is exactly what will be. If you build it, they say, it will materialize and all those good vibes, but until then I’ll paint with a young passion whatever raw emotion hits, of course bubbling.

Summer is fleeting in New England, actually anywhere, right? This year, perhaps more so than most, with months of cool rainy days. So these last days I am skipping out whenever there is a shot at blue overhead. Back to school is on the immediate horizon so I plan to play these days away. Patriarchy, crooked politicians, all that  aside, forget it. Instead dive in, bounce around, pedal strong, and sing summer tunes.

Until whenever.
