Feed your Feathered Friends

Tis the season of food drives and toy drives and considering those less fortunate than ourselves. It is the season of counting your blessing and sharing your riches. Time to watch out for those who need our care, and that extends to those minute song birds that stay through the winter months.

Ode to February

Who can fault a month that celebrates a day of LOVE and a long weekend for PRESIDENTS? Not me, at least not this year, while we are being inundated with snow storms and snow flurries and even more snow showers. Ode to February indeed!! Along with all that white bluster, there is poetry to read while curled up sipping hot chocolate, inspiring us through this short and lovely month.

amidst the politics

While art is occupying Facebook posts, #pussyhats make way for #ShePersisted, #thebusinessman is still spouting #alternativefacts, as his wacko, unqualified, and even dangerous cabinet candidates, one by one, get confirmed. Amidst the politics we must do what we can do and tend to love and compassion and truth. History shows us that if we do, the best of us will prevail.  Along with holding these lofty ideals, we must also ski. Breathe in the cold. Re-new and re-fresh our soul.

Hold on to those when you feel tempest-tossed.

I get it, if you had it your way, we’d all be hibernating like bears, hunkered down, stoking a smoky fire in a clay hut. But listen January, you may be bitter and cold and rigid and frigid, but we just can’t live like that. Not really. Not this year. Sure snowbirds may fly to Miami to escape the real you, but for those of us who hang tough to tell the tale come May, we have a few tried and true strategies. For starters, we keep color inside while your landscape lays bare on the other side of our frame. That’s right. A pop of color to remind us that even January, as big and rough as you want us to believe, is temporary.

Fast Food

dockJanuary is pounding. Grueling. The Polar Vortex swirling its icy breeze clear across the continent. What else is there to do but think of food. Fast. Hot. My advice for what to cook? Hearty food: White Bean Stew with Chicken Sausage. From start to finish in 30 minutes. Sound like a dream come true? Well yes, it is, and luckily, you can make it yourself quite easily.
