There has been tennis, tennis and more tennis happening in my house this week. Tennis watching on the tele that is, well, it is the US Open after all, with a bevy of excellent players from the US crafting some stunning matches, 25 citizens competing this year. To be fair, there are players representing dozens of countries, coming together here as friendly competitors despite politics or national differences. Watching these young athletes is pure joy and absolutely inspiring, yet I found myself ruminating over the term “unforced error.” Commentators throw out the term with no thought over its brutal implication. The error is yours. You should have made the shot, but you didn’t. You are the only cause of your losing game. Brutal, right?

Barbie, Indictment #4, and Summer’s End
Did I get your attention with that title? I really don’t have much to say about “Barbie” other than duh. I mean who doesn’t realize the world is in the control of rich white men? Casting Will Ferrell doesn’t really change the fact that men like Ron Desantis and his cohorts want to not only change our history books and keep women barefoot and pregnant, but want to keep guns in the hands of equally irresponsible and angry white men and trans women the target. “Barbie” is fun and all, and the litany of indictments aimed at putting that clear and obvious criminal behind bars is also fun and all, but this is a man’s world. T-man’s rich and not afraid to lie or coerce or slander or destroy for his own gain, so whatever, I am thinking about more immediate last-ditch summer-blowout fun-shine and sun-scapes this week. You too?
An Irish Goodbye
This California party had an end date all along, but we kept that tucked in the back of the drawer, and celebrated all the fun-shine that came our way for days and weeks. Family time fueled us in every possible way, except for the ability to say goodbye. So, we slipped out the back Irish style with a tall pile of deliciously joyful memories.
