There is much discussion about the record-breaking cloudiest January since the 1950’s here in Vermont this year, and all I can say is wow, I fully appreciate and understand those Snow Birds who migrate to Florida these dark months. But as a person still actively employed, tied to this grey-scale region, I do what I can to find the tiny puffs of beauty in a muffled sky along with the delicately nuanced sparkle in the white landscape. Mostly I look inward during this wintering mode, but there are social engagements that prove to be a boon to anyone’s mood during these weeks without sunshine, and engaging in those is a must. Two good survival tips to consider during these last few wintery months: Get outside alone, but celebrate inside with your gals too.

Light up
Often on a Thursday night when I sit to write my post, I am torn in multiple directions. The headlines are hard to ignore even by those of us desperate to be in the here and now, tending to our own local fires. Many folks run around propelled by the latest gossip, perhaps they too are desperate to get far away from it all? My cold run generally helps. Getting away from a screen and breathing in that mountain air a natural tonic for most.
Transitions
Change is in the air once again. Mornings start off crisp while dusk arrives sooner now that it is mid-September. But I find myself wanting to hold on to the laze of August before it vanishes completely. So I attempt to stroll about in the afternoons and take in the flowering gardens, the green in the meadows, the life of the forest, and all the rest of those sweet reminders that summer holds for us. Tonight why not stroll with me, and enjoy the precious sights that are my immediate world before the seasonal change comes for real.
