Vote?

The mid-term elections have come and gone, and even though a few votes are still being counted, most races have been definitively called. If you participated in our democratic process, then cheers to you! If not, I have to ask why? I mean this in all seriousness, because it seems to me a privilege worth engaging in, and so, I am curious why you don’t feel the same. I am of course very pleased to report that 49 percent of eligible voters did in fact recently cast their vote. Big turnouts are the new trend according to FiveThirtyEight. Long lines, curtailed polling hours and sites, endless reasons not to bother, all plague the process, however, nearly half of voters endured what they must to have their voice heard. Still, over half didn’t. Were the obstacles too great? Or was it in reaction to the unresponsiveness of government to your concerns? What halts one’s civic duty? I hope, more will cast an educated vote the next time around. This is truly one of our greatest rights as Americans. Still.

Celebrations Abound

For so many reasons we are celebrating tonight. First due to the string of birthdays for daughter and niece, yet another Anniversary of this decade+ Nine Cent Girl blog, and wow, for the brilliant power of democracy in action. If you haven’t lifted your voice up in jubilant celebration, let this post encourage you with a wahoo for all the marvels of the week. In the spirit of positivity, I suggest that you roll out your yoga mat, hop on your bike, pour a glass or do whatever it is that you do to chant yourself into bliss for all the goodness that came your way this week. Let’s sparkle for all these triumphs!

Joyful Expressionism

Yes, I know it is NaNoWriMo time, and by today I should have a few thousand words written, and who knows by tomorrow I might be headed straight into some fictional dysfunction that pulls me into a whole cast of characters, but for the last few nights, with the uncommonly warm temps, I’m just too happy to still be out in the garage studio dragging my brushes across and up and down with all the colors that just hit me right.
