VPT-screening-300x300Yes, the Downton Abbey craze has hit my home, and by all measurable stats, this phenomenal series has entered living rooms and imaginations all around our globe.  Ever since Season 1 premiered in England during September of 2010 the buzz has only gotten louder. The show now is available in over 100 countries including Sweden, Russia, South Korea, and across the Middle East, propelling Season 3 to their largest audience to date. In my own family, it is followed with earnest devotion by my 85 year old mother, my twenty-something daughter, my middle-age self, and just about everyone in between.

120 million people have watched this show–5 1/2 million caught the Season 2 finale. So what is it about the Crawley family and the downstairs crew that serve them that compels across generations, across nationalities, or any border what-so-ever? That is the very question I have been asking myself ever since I, along with several hundred others donning period costumes, attended the super-fun one-day-early Vermont Public Television Season 3 premier on the Big Screen Downton Affair…

Reflection feeds Enterprise

Time and time again I am reminded of the value of reflection. In fact, many of my posts have been just that actually: my reflections, my questions, my searches. Thankfully, over this past year, you readers have followed my querying with enthusiasm. Daily I am buoyed by the comments left by so many!

Data too is often part of reflection, and as WordPress has sent this analysis along, I read through to discover my most popular posts (although many of my favorites didn’t make the list), my most steady commenters  (thanks to all, named and unnamed, for your support), and my most trusted search avenues (hurray for fans!): I see the ways Nine Cent Girl connects in this digital sphere.

Don’t Should Me!

Enough already! On both my morning commute and my afternoon drive home, the radio DJ’s were blasting out a litany of stats on failed juicephotoresolutions! Already!?! Seriously!?! Isn’t this still the first week in January? Yes, I turned them right off…but it got me thinking.  Who says you need to start that page-a-day writing regime on January 1st or it will never happen? Who says you need to start a kale-juice fast on January 1st or never? Or make working out at the gym part of your afternoon ritual or never? Personally, with so much pressure I can’t think of a worse week to begin anything! Besides, I’m still exhausted from the frolicking fun of the last few weeks! Office parties and family gatherings, meal times that spilled right into the next meal time, or those marvelous martinis; Yes, those… True there were some sauntering mid-day walks and one night of dancing with a tiara and silk heels but mostly long late nights and up early mornings with a ton of holiday business in-between, so exhausted.
