Nature is Heaven

Emily Dickinson wrote her celebratory poem, “Nature is what we see” in 1863. Over a 150 years later, for my little guy and me, her words strike just right, as we explore our little nook on this wonderful planet together.

“Nature” is what we see—
The Hill—the Afternoon—
Squirrel—Eclipse—the Bumble bee—
Nay—Nature is Heaven—

Nature is what we hear—
The Bobolink—the Sea—
Thunder—the Cricket—
Nay—Nature is Harmony—

Nature is what we know—
Yet have no art to say—
So impotent Our Wisdom is
To her Simplicity.

Indeed, Emily, Nature is Heaven, Harmony, and Simplicity, and all it asks in return is that we treat everyday as a day to love, nurture, and protect our Earth.

  1. oooh lovely photos. . the lilypads , something rare to see. And that dramatic tree arch ! Your grandson is lucky to have such a wonderful grandma, to bring him to those places. They seem like images that might be tucked away in his deep memory. I’d had a few experiences like that, some place extraordinary that I remember well from when I was little, 4 or 5 yrs old.
