It’s August, a perfect time to give myself a real vacation from thinking too hard about sticky stuff. Of course special thanks to Kansas voters who voiced the opinion of most Americans, and who have started my mind-cation off in the right direction. Added thank you to all who are still working to keep our Democracy out of the hands of those bent on destroying every last truth. You people deserve golden metals and shiny honors.
Today, as I watched the sun rise from high in the sky, I was reminded once again, that each day brings possibilities and choices for all of us. Mine is to take a needed long mental break and relax into the stretch of sunshine and family and joy ahead.
Just about everyday this past week we have been on the move. First heading south, then west, then south again, driving for almost 2,000 miles. We were struck by the vast, the rural, and the beauty. Even arriving in the sprawl of Austin, Texas, all three of these qualities existed.
Nine Cent Girl is my love and joy, to ponder, to construct, and to write. However, for the next two weeks two other loves will dominate my time. First, writing and editing my novel all morning in my vacation-home-makeshift-office…
and second, lazing around with my family on the beach all afternoon. Time to ride the waves, collect shells, and listen to the stories.
Luckily, this August affords us the leisure to walk along the shore, chat about the months apart, and sit long enough to watch the sun set deep into the horizon until we relax fully.
These last dog days of summer take a hiatus from your day to day grind. Shift gears to low. September will be here soon enough.
