Stepping out in my new town is the news of the week. I would say mine are baby steps but that just might be my judgmental self, because any forward motion is still forward, right? By discovering my new neighborhood via foot, bike or car, I am expanding my sense of place and today that feels hopeful and hopeful feels good for sure.

Survival? for sure

There is much discussion about the record-breaking cloudiest January since the 1950’s here in Vermont this year, and all I can say is wow, I fully appreciate and understand those Snow Birds who migrate to Florida these dark months. But as a person still actively employed, tied to this grey-scale region, I do what I can to find the tiny puffs of beauty in a muffled sky along with the delicately nuanced sparkle in the white landscape. Mostly I look inward during this wintering mode, but there are social engagements that prove to be a boon to anyone’s mood during these weeks without sunshine, and engaging in those is a must. Two good survival tips to consider during these last few wintery months: Get outside alone, but celebrate inside with your gals too.

Barbie, Indictment #4, and Summer’s End

Did I get your attention with that title? I really don’t have much to say about “Barbie” other than duh. I mean who doesn’t realize the world is in the control of rich white men? Casting Will Ferrell doesn’t really change the fact that men like Ron Desantis and his cohorts want to not only change our history books and keep women barefoot and pregnant, but want to keep guns in the hands of equally irresponsible and angry white men and trans women the target. “Barbie” is fun and all, and the litany of indictments aimed at putting that clear and obvious criminal behind bars is also fun and all, but this is a man’s world. T-man’s rich and not afraid to lie or coerce or slander or destroy for his own gain, so whatever, I am thinking about more immediate last-ditch summer-blowout fun-shine and sun-scapes this week.
