On the Eve of the Harvest Moon

They say tomorrow there will be a government shutdown. The seven GOP contenders said they are calling him Donald Duck. Beyoncé is making magic, still, shimmering in silver. Dumbledore died this time for real. Swifties are lining up to register to vote. Unions are on a winning roll. Books are banned by our own citizens like they can actually harm someone while gun purchases continue to break records. Fact checkers can’t keep up with the lies being spilled over the airwaves and sadly we live in a world of non-facts. Biden impeachment over what exactly? Yet, apples are ready to be picked in Vermont. Trees are getting their pretty red and yellow and orange on too. The last Super moon of the year is illuminating our night sky, bringing a slice of crazy too if you believe that sort of stuff. Take a breath, get outside, gaze upward to find the big blue before it fades into black, bite into a tart yet sweet Honey-crisp apple, and perhaps you’ll be fine.

Barbie, Indictment #4, and Summer’s End

Did I get your attention with that title? I really don’t have much to say about “Barbie” other than duh. I mean who doesn’t realize the world is in the control of rich white men? Casting Will Ferrell doesn’t really change the fact that men like Ron Desantis and his cohorts want to not only change our history books and keep women barefoot and pregnant, but want to keep guns in the hands of equally irresponsible and angry white men and trans women the target. “Barbie” is fun and all, and the litany of indictments aimed at putting that clear and obvious criminal behind bars is also fun and all, but this is a man’s world. T-man’s rich and not afraid to lie or coerce or slander or destroy for his own gain, so whatever, I am thinking about more immediate last-ditch summer-blowout fun-shine and sun-scapes this week. Today’s headlines are doin nothin but causin fear and chaos over disaster and death. A hell-broth of fire storms from coast to coast and if you are like me, you are feeling staggering grief, little beyond grief.

Thankfully there is an outdoors, away from most of this craziness, away to blue sky and open space. And here one can retreat to a place which acts as a reminder of the before days.
