January’s cold snap can be depressing, but can also present the luxury to stay in one’s pajamas, a treat by any standard. By mid-January the alarm jolts you up and out in the still-blue dawn, and the day-to-day grind of ice-chipping and snow-removal and the barrage of storm warnings run your every second. In this winter world, this relentless reality, one really needs to find a way to retreat and refuel. Here’s my fool-proof, two-step guide to do just that and make it through:
Football Frenzy
Wondering how football entered the consciousness of a girly-girl or even became a topic in her blog??? This odd thread can be traced back to my childhood; probably like a host of other typically male-dominated activities, like barbecuing steaks or raking leaves, both of which I am somewhat of an expert. Considering brothers, fathers, boyfriends, even non-girly-girl girlfriends conduct their football frenzy in the living room, it’s sort of natural that at some point even the most disinterested gets involved. Besides, this magical almost mystical preoccupation becomes something even more when men alone know the rules.
Cheesecake Love
As the Holiday parties become faded memories, the shiny decorations are taken down and boxed, the extended family has all gone back to their respective homes, and everyone is back to work, we are being bombarded with some sort of cultural demand for RESOLUTIONS!!! Weight Watchers and Nutrisystem advertisements, along with Bowflex and Gym specials, prod us to eat less but move more, and yet all these ads really do is make me miss the sparkle and joviality and festivities even more!
