Can you believe Nine Cent Girl hit year TWO in November!?! Since my very first post in 2010 not a day has gone by when I don’t scribble something on Nine Cent Girl or my  Twitter or Facebook pages, or post an image on Tumblr or Pinterest. And best of all, thanks to all of you, I’m writing to an audience!!! Like most writers I have two novels, a respectable folder of poems, a stash of short stories, along with the obligatory rejection letters, all crammed into my desk drawers; yet despite not being “formally” published, quite serendipitously, I have become part of a global digital family of writers. I have discovered that as much as I love writing posts and receiving feedback from my readers, I find equal delight reading other bloggers that I stumble upon each week.

Coming Home to the Madonna

Wedding Gift Madonna: 62 years ago

Like 42.5 million other Americans I traveled more than 50 miles “home” for Thanksgiving, and like so many, our gathering was in a different house than the one I grew up in. My mother sold the big family home and now lives comfortably in a sunny condo. Luckily, many of the artifacts from my childhood settled in as well as she has, including her collection of Madonnas.

Yes, It Takes A Village!

Recently we were visited by a very sweet little one and her adoring parents. Between the four of us we rocked and walked, fed and dressed the delightful six-week old and did little else over the long weekend. The old African proverb made popular by Hillary Clinton, “It Takes a Village” certainly comes to mind when in the presence of a new being whose immediate needs are vital to her survival… Her demands are simple: Food. Warmth. Love.
