Last Looks

Oh Vermont, ours has been a forty plus year love affair which I still cling to even while I prepare to move west. Happy lake time runs from May into October and brings a constant treat. Diving in takes precedence on most afternoons, yet each time I consider myself lucky. There are more than 800 lakes and ponds in Vermont, one more spectacular than the other: I have done my best to swim in lots of them, although I have found favorites they are all fabulous. Of course there is more to my love than one season’s occupation. There is the richness of green hills against the brilliant blue sky, the sweet smell of yellow flowers that run Spring through Fall, as well as the stark black and white beauty of Winter. All an integral  part of me now.

As the movers lift the last of our boxes into their truck, I am certain it will all come with me.

Daisy Daze

Hot everywhere and everyone is talking about it. July all fiery and flaming so much so that you are in a mental daze moving in slow-mo from shady spot to water on repeat. Unless of course you can’t, in which case you are stumbling along on these dog days of summer. We are desperate to think clearly but have to admit defeat in this heat.

My America

My America is a blend of hard labor and kickback ease, peppered with a wide array of choices for an even wider array of people. My America is open to new ideas and change, although elders are still sought out for their grounded wisdom. My America supports public educators to do what they have been trained to do, with all the books at their disposal. My America isn’t afraid to give a helping hand to those who have fallen down, who have been held down, who have gotten lost or who have arrived from a nightmare. My America is only as strong as the weakest link, therefore we forge bonds to shore up the fragile among us. My America would ask everyone to pay taxes even if they are clever enough not to because we really need that level of support to provide a stable infrastructure for this great nation. My America would cancel military weapons from the hands of all these crazy white guys who are misguided into believing they are saviors. I know there is plenty I don’t understand about how this whole world spins but in My America I would stop believing the long list of lies that some people can’t resist telling us.
