Road Tripping for Fashion

New York Fashion Week might be winding down, but we are still digesting images of the gorgeous textures of Nanette Lepore’s collection, Anna Sui’s brilliantlyRodarte - Runway - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2014 blended era’s of the 40s and the 70s, the feathers of Marchesa’s embroidered gowns, Jason Wu’s reinvented suits and Michael Kors’ Fall line which reflects a new maturity with his posh patterns and relaxed styling. Plenty of designer clothes to dream over! Let’s not forget Rodarte’s “strongest collection of their career, capped off by five stunning finale gowns incorporating classic artwork from the “Star Wars” films. The sweeping silk charmeuse looks, made with the blessing of Disney and the films’ creator George Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson, avowed fans of the brand who have been spotted before at Rodarte shows, featured the most beloved characters of the epic story, Luke Skywalker, Yoda, C-3PO and R2-D2. Also translated onto silk, the Death Star and a beautiful landscape of the twin suns of Skywalker’s home planet Tatooine” (Moore). Can I just say, I love!

For those of us who live beyond the catwalks and fashion week tents, thankfully there are knockoff stores like H&M, and equally exciting are the designers who create special collections for chains like Target. For those of you who live around the corner from Target, this post may have little emotional meaning, but for us Vermonters Target holds a mystic, for we are the only state that doesn’t have one. Yes, you read that right, not one Target within our state lines. But seeing that the trendy designer Peter Pilotto was releasing his collection with Target, we decided a road trip was in order!

We MapQuested the route, squeezed orange juice and made a healthy hearty breakfast to eat while perusing the collection online one last time. After all, one needs sustenance to endue extreme shopping.

By 10:00 we were very much on our way. Traveling north on Route 89 we had the right soundtrack to keep the fun alive through the long drive.

Once arrived we headed straight to view the collection filled with bold graphics, digital fabrications, and modern architectural tailoring the design team is know for. Oh yes, screaming color is just what this girl needs in February! I made several trips back and forth from the dressing room to the racks for different sizes or alternate prints to find which was right for me. The Target that I shop at didn’t stock many of the dresses, blazers, swimwear or totes so I couldn’t peruse the whole collection but I found the fit and draping impressive in what was there and left with several very chic looks.

Target, all in all, I’m happy to keep you beyond our borders but still within a two hour drive. Thank you for bringing us talented designer’s collections that are affordable and noteworthy. For us simple shoppers these treats are pure candy!!
