Boots Made for Walking

cat1Autumn is upon us, with flooding sunshine and falling leaves and dropping temperatures. This is a favorite time of year because of the blast of color and treats of harvest, after all, who doesn’t love all shades orange or every apple recipe? As I moved summer lightweights to the back of my closet and woolen garments to the front, I made another adjustment, the shift from sandals to boots! Perhaps more than ever boots are everywhere, from the runway to the street, lace-up to zip-up, ankle height to over-the-knee, suede to shiny and in every hue. For this shoot, I dug up a favorite pair from last year and donned new favorites, but each one is a walkable boot–my main criteria. After all, we need to keep moving with all this brilliance around us! Joined by my kitty we danced about in the foliage for a brilliant afternoon.

My first look is totally casual, with a comfy tee and skirt, and my old favorite Rocket Dog boots. These flats pull on with ease and allow for a whole day of leaf-peeping or apple-picking in comfort!

Striped sweater and pleated skirt from Zara made more fun with fishnets and vintage short boots! These black leather Nine West boots have a short heel to give me an added kick in my step. Silver frames and headband lead you right into after work gatherings with shine and flare.

This year I eyed the ‘riding style’ boot everywhere, but took my time to find the pair. I wanted a boot I could live in all day long, but had details and workmanship I would not tire of. These Sam Edelman boots crafted from the softest leather fit the bill perfectly!

What says boot better than Frye? No one’s closet is complete without a pair. My are a dark grey, slouch a little, and work with skinny jeans, but I think paired with my Top Shop dress and felt fedora, just add the right attitude.

So, get walking America, and enjoy this glorious Autumn by spending time outside in your favorite boots!

  1. You rock boots & tights better than anyone else I know! Those heart tights are darling. This blog make me smile. It’s going to be in the upper 70’s here in MN tomorrow, but I am going to wear boots anyway. Your blog is a great way to end my day. Thank you Moira! Have a wonderful weekend. *HUGS*

    • I have made it a practice to never get rid of top shelf clothes or footwear; everything comes back again. (However, you do need large closets) Or you can do what I did last year, I bought nothing new for a whole season and then, with all the $$ saved, treated myself to a pair of Frye boots. Well worth the investment!

  2. Reblogged this on Nine Cent Girl and commented:

All work and no play is certainly not healthy, and most definitely not for this nine cent girl, but alas, it has been one of those crazy busy work weeks! As I glanced back through the archives, I discovered this playful post, shot on an autumn afternoon, years ago, showcasing me dressing up and flitting about. Just perusing it, I am reminded to make time this weekend for fun. Tis the season, my friends, to enjoy such moments. Be creative. Do what you love. At least for long enough to laugh out loud. xxoo
